Grand Little Lie, a local production from film directors Abel Mutua and Phil Karanja, has clocked at least 20,000 views since its grand premiere last week, translating to Ksh 4 million.
The movie was premiered on October 1st in theaters but instead of sharing the link on social media and youtube as other movies have been done in the past, the two directors opted to create a website and sell it directly.
Users paid Ksh 200 to watch and with over 20,000 watching in the first week, Mutua and Phil believe they hit their grand target of 50,000.
On an Instagram live session, Mutua said that the reception was the best in any Kenyan movie history.
“I don’t think kuna sinema imekuwa na sales kama hizo,” Abel said in a recent live interaction with his fans on Instagram.
Written and directed by respected Kenyan filmmakers Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja respectively, the plot is packed with unexpected twists and turns and a great dose of humor. The official trailer is out and you can view it by clicking here.
Rated PG 16 GLL is packed with Kenyan A-list actors, such as Michael Munyoki, Mercy Mutisya, Bilal Mwaura, Catherine Kamau, Nyokabi Macharia, and Sauti Sol singer Bien just to mention a few. After the premiere, the film later will have 3 other screenings on 2nd October 2021 at selected cinemas.
A Grand Little Lie is yet another addition to the stupendous catalog that Phil It Productions boasts of. Other programs under this production house include Hullabaloo Estate, Andakava, MaEmpress, and Sue Na Jonnie among others.
