Kenyan Wins Coveted International Technology Award

The 2022 recipient of the much coveted Microsoft Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award is Kenya’s very own Shadrack Kiprotich for his work in sharing tech expertise with fellow tech professionals.

Kiprotich expressed his gratitude after successfully being nominated in the Business Applications category. He further stated that he looks forward to the growth of the MVP movement in Kenya which he believes will benefit many.

“The MVP award program will play a huge role in my journey. As the only Kenyan MVP at the moment, I am looking forward to more people joining the program and we will be able to grow the MVP community in Kenya and get to empower more people,” he stated.

Kiprotich has a Bachelor of Commerce degree but developed an interest in programming after being shown by a friend, thus leading him to the Microsoft Learn Students Ambassadors program.

From there he went on to lead a team in Season 2 of the Microsoft Game Learners hackathon which took place in 2021.

Microsoft Africa’s Development Senior Program Manager for Ecosystem Engagements, Ruth Ferland, emphasized how Shadrack’s award further emphasized the importance of teaching technical skills at an early age while also maintaining talent development.

“As we congratulate Shadrack Kiprotich for his unwavering efforts to becoming one of the elite global technology professionals, we must consider the value of providing technical skills early on in people’s lives,” Ferland stated.
