Visual Artist Katanu Kay Taking The Internet By Storm

It’s great to see a renewed support in Kenya for the arts and the creative industry at large. It’s been a while coming but there has been progress – we aren’t still stuck in the days when a career in the creative industry or markets was seen as a failure on the part of parents and guardians.

And so when a spark comes across – it’s something that we have embraced.

The spark of the month is Katanu Kay – a 19-year-old student is literally shaking things up with her own stunning view of what art is. Her paintings are more than that – they are sculptural pieces that utilize fabric – African fabric at that, to convey colour, movement and emotion.

Check out some of the amazing pieces that she shares to her social media – and that have literally turned her into one of the biggest talking points online this year.

It really is a beautiful thing when young people are recognized forging their own way ahead – and bucking the trends that constrain creativity in today’s world.

You can follow her on her social media accounts – in particular, Instagram – a medium that is proving super effective at getting her name out there.
