Kenyan Music Groups Whose New Music We Miss

The Kenyan music is bursting with emergent groups that are serving different sounds and adding layers to the Kenyan music sound. While groups like Sauti Sol, Wanavokali and H_Art The Band are popping and have heavy rotation on the radio right now, below are some music groups whose new music is really missed:

Le Band

Comprised of Ken Mwendwa AKA Mr Sugar and Spice, Fidel Shammah/ Charisma AKA Luhya Heat and Joel Maina AKA Chokoraa Mjanja, this trio is behind hits such as Leo, For You and Number One. Their musical talent earned this group tons of fans and even a co-sign from Khaligraph Jones when he collaborated with them on the track Nakupenda.  Even though they have been working on solo projects in the recent past, we sure do miss the musical magic that Le Band made in studio.

Elani

Famous for hits such as Kookoo, Milele, Jana Usiku and Barua Ya Dunia among others, these Sauti Sol protégés hit the music scene with a bang. The trio made of Brian Chweya, Wambui Ngugi and Maureen Kunga wowed Kenyans with their sultry vocals and amazing stage presence. Their latest release Nimejaribu which was dropped last year received favourable reviews and we can’t wait to hear more new songs from Elani.

Just A Band

This Kenyan House, Funk and Disco group caused a stir when they dropped their debut album Scratch To Reveal in 2008. Their different and experimental sound earned them curious fans who were thirsty for more music. Comprised of Blinky Bill, Dan Muli, Mbithi Masya and former member Jim Chuchu, this group is famous for hits such as Huff + Puff, Ha-He and Dunia Ina Mambo. They hinted at a possible comeback recently via an Instagram post and all fans can do is hope and wait.

Mankind

Mankind is Kenya’s very own Alternate music duo that is made up of Eugene Okumu and Brian Ochieng. Their music is packed with multi-genre experimental styles that have made them stand out from their peers. We are looking forward to new music from Mankind as their sound is always refreshing.
