Carole Kinoti is one of the 22 women-led businesses to be recognized by Mastercard’s first-ever Women’s SME leaders awards.
The awards were developed by Mastercard in partnership with Entrepreneur Middle East recognizing the success of women-led businesses in 22 categories and multiple industry sectors across the Middle East and Africa. The nomination was open to businesses across all walks of life (a small enterprise in trading has a turnover of less than 1.5 million and employs between 6 to 50 people) to take part.
Kenya was represented by winners Carole Kinoti, the social fashion entrepreneur who was named The Retailer, alongside the Principal Consultant and Founder of the wealth management firm Zoel Capital, who was named, The Executive.
Carole Kinoti is a creative in the fashion industry with over 19 years of experience. Her passion and creativity have led her to develop not only a high-end known brand but also a series of initiatives in a bid to transform the Kenyan fashion industry into a more accessible, sustainable, and ethical industry. The designer and humanitarian is transforming the fashion industry by paving the way for creatives to scale their businesses.
Carole Kinoti brands include a self-named ready-to-wear line “Carole Kinoti”, Fashion on The Road (FoTR Kenya), and The Mavazi Elevate Program (MEP). She is also the Chairperson of People on the Move.
In an interview with Business Today in 2020; Kinoti talks about wanting to be a chef but getting into fashion by chance after sharing office space with a tailor. She however always knew she was going to be creative. She also talks about being in fashion from the mitumba only era to today when more people are wearing local designs.
