YouTube celebrated its African content creators in a special way through its event dubbed Creator 360: The After Party. The event which was hosted by Nigerian actress and Youtuber Bisola Aiyeola, took place via a virtual stream that was broadcast on Google Africa’s YouTube Channel on 21st May 2021 from 8 pm EAT.
Celebrating the diversity of its content creators, YouTube highlighted the various types of content such as beauty, spoken word, tech, lifestyle, food, and comedy during the over 1-hour long show. Flying high the Kenyan flag were YouTubers Chef Ali Mandhry, Alex Mathenge, Joanna Kinuthia, Wabosha Maxine, Joy Kendi, Churchill, Dr. Kingori, and Kaluhi who were featured in this unique show.
Packed with amazing activities such as mini battles, interviews, dance, and funny commentaries, the show was as informative as it was entertaining. Chef Ali got to battle out against his Nigerian counterpart Chef Winfred Emmanuel in the Jelof Vs Pilau battle. While every featured YouTuber vouched for their countries’ meal, the host gave them a tie as she could not decide on which rice dish was better than the other.
Creator 360: The After Party, was also graced by Alex Okosi, YouTube Managing Director of Emerging Markets, who announced that YouTube would be adding more product features such as channel memberships and super chats which will enable content creators to make more money on the platform.
There is no doubt that the YouTube space in Kenya is rapidly growing. More and more content creators are emerging every single day and the penetration of the internet in the country continues to widen their audiences. That is why Kenya was not left behind in this very necessary celebration. Other Kenyan YouTubers who were mentioned include Kemunto Bear, Jaymo Ule Msee, Mitchelle Adagala and Mumo.
