Kenyan-American actor Edi Gathegi will be headed to the silver screen early next year to star in ABC’s newest sitcom Family Tools.
Edi will play Darren Poynton and will star alongside Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week, Will and Grace) J.K Simmons (Law&Order, The Closer, Spider-Man), Leah Marie Remini (The King of Queens) and Danielle Nicolet (3rd Rock from the Sun)
The series follows a guy who has had a streak of bad luck and epic failures with everything from a stint in the Army to flunking out of a seminary three times. When he returns home, he finds himself in the unlikely position of taking over his father’s hardware handyman business after he suffers a heart condition. However, this transition will not be as easy as expected as he tries to maintain the success of the business that his father built, especially with his father looking to see if he can carry the tradition and without slacking off.
Edi is best known for his recurring character Dr. Jeffrey Cole (aka “Big Love”) in the television series House, as Cheese in the 2007 film Gone Baby Gone and as Laurent in the films Twilight, its sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Darwin in X-Men: First Class.
Family Tools is set to premier on ABC in 2013 right after Dancing With The Stars.
