Kenya Rugby Player Dies Following A Road Accident

Kenya Rugby fraternity is in mourning yet again after former Homeboyz skipper Peter Wekesa died on Sunday.

Wekesa was involved in a tragic accident together with his twin brother on Sunday and were pronounced dead at Mariakani hospital.

Peter Captained Homeboyz RFC to win Ess cup in 2011. Both Peter and Andrew also played for Impala Saracens RFC.

Homeboyz RFC head coach Paul Murunga said “It is great sorrow and sad news about the death of our former player and Captain Peter Wekesa . Peter and his Twin brother John were involved in a tragic accident in Mombasa and both pronounced dead at Mariakani Hospital.”

A statement from the club said “Homeboyz Rugby Club expresses our deep and heartfelt condolences and joins in praying for the sorrowing family who have lost three young men in less than a year. Let our Almighty God take the departed souls to their Heavenly Abode and give the entire family strength to bear this heartbreaking loss.”

“We will give further updates once we receive them and request that we all allow the family time to grieve.”

Peter was an elder brother of the late former Homeboyz prop Andrew Wekesa who passed away in January in Kitengela.

The Kenya Rugby released a statement saying:
“The Kenya Rugby Union expresses its condolences to the family of Peter Wekesa, his former teammates at Homeboyz and Impala Saracens following his death this past weekend”

“The news of Peter and John’s demise is indeed gutting and hard to comprehend.May God’s grace be with the family and friends during this difficult time”

It has been a difficult year for the local rugby fraternity rugby following the death of players. In July, Kenya Commercial Bank player James Kilonzo was shot dead by thugs at Kasarani area in Nairobi County.

Nakuru’s Mike Okombe was killed on Saturday and is set to be buried this weekend in Kakamega County.
