Kenya Emerges Victorious in the Just Concluded World U20 Athletics Championship

The World Under 20 Athletics Championship came to a close this past Sunday, the competition kicked off on Tuesday, July 17, 2021 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The championship is contested by Athletes under the age 20 years, taking place after every other year.

Benson Kiplagat wins a Gold Medal in Men’s 5000m

Benson Kiplagat opened the Medal tally on the third day with a Gold Medal win in the Men’s 5000m finals.

Levy Kibet came in third to win a Bronze in the same race.

Teresia Muthoni Wins Gold in Women’s 3000m

A few hours later, Teresia Muthoni clinched a Gold medal in Women’s 3000m, cloaking a time of 8.57.78.

Zena Chemutai came in second to win a Silver Medal in the same race.

Jackline Chepkoech Wins Gold in Women 3000m Steeplechase

Jackline Chepkoech drew the curtain to the third day with a Gold Medal win in Women’s 3000m Steeplechase.

Faith Cherotich came in third to win Bronze Medal in the same race.

Heristone Wanyonyi is the first Kenyan to win Gold in a world championship level

The Medal harvest continued on the fourth day.

Jackline Chepkoech and Faith Cherotich won Gold and Bronze Medals in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase.

A few moments later, Heristone Wanyonyi became the first Kenyan at a world championship level to secure Gold Medal in a walking Race with a personal best time of 42.10.84 in Men’s 10,000m Walk Race.

World U20 Athletics Championship Draws to a close

Team Kenya finished the Championship on a high note, bagging Gold Medals in Men’s 800m, Women’s 1500m and Men’s 3000m Steeplechase. Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Purity Chepkirui and Amos Serem won in the races respectively.

Noah Kibet, Winnie Jemutai and Simon Koech won Bronze medals in the same races.

Team Kenya remained at the top of the medal tall with a total of 16 medal, 8 Gold, 1 Silver and 7 Bronze Medals respectively.
