Kenya Harlequins’ Herman Humwa has been handed his debut call-up as Head Coach Innocent Simiyu included him in the Kenya 7s squad to the HSBC Sevens World Series season-opening Dubai Sevens set for 1st and 2nd December.
Oscar Ayodi leads the team for the first time as the captain replacing Andrew Amonde who is out with an injury sustained during Christie 7s.
“It is a challenge I will take in my stride. We are going into the season confident and hopefully, the results will show. Heading into the season, we are confident we shall deliver,” said Ayodi.
Commenting on Humwa’s selection, Simiyu said, ” Herman is a big boy; quite good on the high ball and brings physicality and pace to our game.
Willy Ambaka returns to the team with Homeboyz centre Jeff Oluoch also named in the squad. Oscar Ouma, who is the new Kenya 7s vice-captain, Dan Sikuta, Frank Wanyama, Collins Injera, Eden Agero, Sammy Oliech, Oscar Ayodi, Nelson Oyoo and Dennis Ombachi make up the squad.
“Jeff is coming off a great sevens season with Homeboyz and we believe in picking players when their tails are up and hope he delivers while playing for Shujaa,” added Simiyu.
The team leaves the country on Monday 27 November. Kenya is in Pool A with reigning series and tournament champions South Africa, Canada and neighbours Uganda. They will start their campaign against Canada at 9.30am East African Time on Friday 1 December before playing South Africa at 1.36pm. They will complete their day one assignments against Uganda at 6.31pm.
After Dubai 7s, Kenya will head to South Africa for the third edition of Cape Town Sevens on December 9.
