Kenya 7s Recall Ombachi For Hong Kong, Singapore 7s

Kenya Sevens jetted out of the country on Monday morning ahead of Seventh round of the HSBC World rugby sevens series, Hong Kong Sevens Set to start on Friday Apr 7, 2017.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu named the squad to do duty in Hong Kong and Singapore with Impala’s Derrick Mayar getting his maiden call up.

Dennis Ombachi, who took Kenya 7s to the Olympics, returns to the team for the time in the current campaign while Brian Tanga makes a comeback after Sydney 7s.

As Mayar gets the chance for his first taste of the World Series, Tanga featured in the opening four rounds of the series at Dubai, Cape Town, Sydney and Wellington makes a comeback while Ombachi returns for the first time in the current season.

Skipper Andrew Amonde will lead the pack to the far east leading a squad that has joint top try scorer Collins Injera and Quins trio of Eden Agero, Willy Ambaka and Frank Wanyama.

Bush Mwale and Augustine Lugonzo of Homeboyz make the team and so does Sammy Oliech of Impala, Nakuru’s Nelson Oyoo and Kabras Sugar’s Dan Sikuta.

From the squad that took part in Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s, Leonard Mugaisi, Billy Odhiambo and Oscar Ayodi are left as Tanga, Ombachi and Mayar come in. Odhiambo, who sat out Vancouver 7s is understood to have picked a knock in Vegas, Ayodi has a recurring knee injury while Mugaisi’s is out on tactical basis.

Kenya Sevens is banded in pool B of the Hong Kong 7s alongside series leaders South Africa, Canada and France.

Kenya Sevens will kick-off the leg against Canada 7s on Friday April 7 at 3.18pm Kenyan time.

They will then get to action on day two of the tournament, Saturday April 8 at 8.56am against series leaders South Africa before concluding the pool matches 12.34pm against France 7s.
