Kenya 7s Duo Pulls Out Of Hong Kong, Singapore 7s

Kenya Sevens has suffered a major blow after two players pulled out of Hong Kong Sevens set to happen on Friday Apr 7, 2017 in Hong Kong.

Through a statement sent to the newsroom, Kenya Rugby Union(KRU) announced that Willy Ambaka of Kenya Harlequins and Dan Sikuta had withdrawn from the squad to take part in the Asian duty.

“Ambaka is out due to a personal commitment while Sikuta misses this tour due to work commitments,” the statement from KRU read.

Ambaka is understood to be pursuing a professional contract with an overseas club that is yet to be named to the public until he seals the move.

Sikuta on the other side is believed to have pulled out after a request from his Kabras Sugar side who want to use him during Saturday’s Kenya Cup semifinal against Homeboyz at Jamhuri Showground.

Ambaka is Kenya’s top scorer with 19 touch downs and sits seventh in the world, 15 below series top scorer Dan Norton of England.

The 102kg Ambaka has in total scored 95 points, Billy Odhiambo is second with 75 while Samuel Oliech is third with 59 points.

In most clean breaks, Ambaka is seventh in the World with 27 one ahead of Billy Odhiambo while Seabelo Senatla and Dan Norton still lead with 40 and 37 respectively.

He is 10th in the most tackles made with 72 in a list that is led by the likes of Chris Dry, Philip Snyman and Werner Kok of South Africa, Fiji captain Osea Kulinisau, Dan Bibby of England and USA’s Madison Hughes.

Kenya, who lie 12th in the standings with 40 points after six of the 10 rounds, will face South Africa, Canada and France in Pool B.

Kenya Sevens will kick-off the leg against Canada 7s on Friday Ap 7 at 3.18pm Kenyan time.

They will then get to action on day two of the tournament, Saturday April 8 at 8.56am against series leaders South Africa before concluding the pool matches 12.34pm against France 7s.
