Kenya 7s Dealt With Huge Injury Blow

Kenya Sevens star Oscar Ayodi has been ruled out for the rest of the HSBC Sevens Series as he is set to undergo an operation.

Kenya Sevens will be without Oscar Ayodi for the rest of 2016/2017 HSBC World Sevens Series.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu broke the not-so-good news as preparations for Paris 7s continues, which means the Homeboyz man will miss the French leg and London 7s, the only remaining legs in the 10-leg series.

Ayodi has a recurring knee injury sustained during the 2015/2016 season which saw him miss the opening rounds of the current campaign.

“The only person who is not going to be with us this season is Oscar Ayodi who is set to go for an operation on his knee so that he can be ready for pre-season in July,” said Simiyu.

He has only played in Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s as well featuring for Homeboyz in the 2016/2017 Kenya Cup season.

Ayodi is expected to be ready for the 2017/2018 HSBC Sevens Series set to kick-off in December with Dubai 7s.

Ayodi and Fiji’s Kitione Taliga put on a dazzling display at the HSBC Singapore Sevens – peak performances that scored them each 40 points and a share of the DHL Impact Player Award for the Southeast Asian tournament.

In 2015/2016 Sevens series, Ayodi made 19 offloads, 93 tackles, 118 carries and 24 line breaks to become the top DHL impact player.

In Singapore 2016, Ayodi topped the charts with 10 tackles, 4 breaks, 23 carries and 3 offloads totaling to 40.

This also means he will not be available for Enterprise Cup where Homeboyz is scheduled to play Western Bulls in the pre-quarters.

He will, however, be available for the National sevens circuit that begins in July where Homeboyz are the defending champions.

In Homeboyz’ journey to winning sevens in 2016, Ayodi only took part in Nanyuki 7s where he came out with an injury.
