At only 14 years and with nothing but a dream, former project fame contestant and radio presenter Kaz Lucas got an opportunity that many only dream of.
Kaz managed to perform alongside American rapper Coolio as a teenager after the late rapper gave her a chance to showcase her talent at Carnivore Grounds while he was in Kenya.
Taking to social media to mourn the Gangster Paradise artist who died on 28 September 2022 at 59, Kaz thanked him for kickstarting her career.
“My first time on stage was with Coolio,” she said in the emotional post. “I was 14 years old. He helped kickstart my career and am saddened by the news. RIP.”
“Thanks for what you did for me.”
In her surprise performance at Carnivore Grounds, Karen wowed the crowd after performing alongside Coolio and walked home with the title of the best overall rapper at the impromptu rapping competition.
She went on to join the Project Fame competition were she performed really well. Following her run on the competition, she officially launched her music career and in 2005, she won the East African Kisima award for Best Afro Fusion Artist of the Year. In 2006, she was honoured to receive the African Kora award for Most Promising Female Artist in Africa.
