Kalasha International Film & TV Awards 2020 Nominees Are Finally Out!

The nominees for the Kalasha International Film & TV Awards 2020 are finally out! This prestigious annual Film & TV accolade seeks to recognize and award exemplary players in the Kenyan Film Industry. The nominees were unveiled yesterday via a broadcast on NTV.

According to the organizers, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), this edition which is its 10th received 1,036 entries since its call for submission in August 2020. 16 Film, 8 TV and 4 Special award categories were up for contest including the newly added Best Children Production category.  Some of the categories include Best Feature Film, Best Orginal Score, Best Production Designer, Best Editor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Student Feature just to mention a few.

The nominations list is star studded with popular actors and actresses such as Nick Mutuma, Sarah Hassan, Raymond Ofula, Sam Psenjen, Mwaura Bilal, Amina Abdi and Pierra Makena among others. Films such as 40 Sticks, Sincerely Daisy  and Midlife Crisis have bagged multiple nominations.

A nine-member Jury academy that included seasoned film industry players comprised of: Mr. James Kanja (Kalasha Jury Chair, Producers Guild), Mr. Fred Makori (Kenya National Film Association), Ms. Jackline Emali (Kenya Scriptwriters Guild), Mr. Simon Mwaura (Riverwood Ensemble), Mr. Mishael Mose (Association of Film Producing Educational Institutions in Kenya), Ms. Joy Alunga (Association of Animation Artists of Kenya), Mr. Alfred Munyua (Kenya Actors Guild), Mr. Joe Kageni (Kenya Film and Television Professionals Association) and Ms. Loise Makato (Media Council of Kenya) was tasked to review the submissions and select the best. The committee noted an improvement in the quality of productions.

Public voting is set to commence on 19th November 2020 and close on 3rd December 2020. Public voting will constitute 30% while the Jury vote will constitute 70% of the total vote. The winners will be awarded at a gala scheduled for 12th December 2020. KFC has partnered with StarTimes to complement the voting process through their ON platform. Click here to cast your vote.
