Everyone goes through different phases in life. It can be marriage, school, relationship, business or even just aging.
These changes don’t always go as planned and sometimes backfire on us, leaving us hopeless with little optimism. Maybe you are jumping out of a toxic relationship and need a fresh start or you have been laid off and don’t know what to do.
Starting afresh can be tormenting and even at times depressing. You are sure you need that change, yet you’re afraid to make the conscious decision to move because you’re not even sure what change you need to make.
If your life has fallen apart because of unexpected twists, here’s how you can start over.
1. It’s okay to start over
The first thing you need to accept is that starting over isn’t a bad thing. Life comes with a lot of twists and turns and starting afresh is something that we should all warm up to.
2. Take a break
Take a step back and critically look at everything. Stop banging your head on the wall. If you’re where you are, doing what you’re doing, and continue doing that, you’re going to have a difficult time resetting. Take some time off, go for a vacation or just stay still for a moment. Things will clear up.
3. Make peace with reality
Many of us are stuck in life because we can’t accept our reality. We choose to live in a fantasy hoping for the best. Sit yourself down and get real with yourself no matter how unpleasant it might be.
4. Clear out people, things, and commitments that don’t resonate
If you are moving forward, the first thing you need to do is clear things that will always remind and hold you back. Ditch all the clutter in your life and leave space for a new beginning. it might be photos, memories, a job, or even your house. A fresh start needs a fresh beginning.
5. Decide what you want to do next
Now that you have vowed to move forward, decide what you want to do and come up with a solid plan on how you’ll go about it. Don’t just decide, plan and strategize because your new path will also have obstacles.
6. Ignore what others say and how they think and live
If you are not careful, your friends and even family might send you into the wrong direction. You’ll need to have a tough mindset on this and continue on the journey alone when you get little support.
7. Build up habits to help yourself move forward
Deciding and starting is not enough. You need habits that will keep you in line so that you won’t go back to your old ways.
8. Get a mentor or guide to help you get to this life
Don’t do this alone. get someone who will guide and advise you on your new journey. If you want to move quickly towards your destination, seek a mentor, tutor, or coach.
