South Sudanese-Canadian international recording artist and entrepreneur, Emmanuel Jal launched a new cafe, Jal Gua, and a health food store in the heart of Kenyatta Market. Jal Gua (meaning ‘walk in peace’ or ‘walk in power’ in the Naath language) is an instant powder superfood.

Speaking at the launch, Emmanuel stated how this café was inspired by his soft drink addiction that had led him down a road of poor health. He further stated that he would consume up to 3 liters of Coca-Cola a day. Jal further intimated that at the age of 30 years, he had a stroke. This prompted him to review his lifestyle choices and learn about food.
“I created Jal Gua in 2012 after being hospitalized twice and diagnosed with high blood pressure with doctors fearing diabetes was not far off. This made me look for a solution and made me realize that few people from my village suffered from diabetes. I then invested in eating healthy food, returning to eating traditional African foods and ingredients, and eventually got better and on the right track healthwise.” Said the former child soldier.
During the launch, the Kuar singer surprised the crowd with an electric live performance of his top songs. In attendance were key personalities including Juliani, Enos Olik, Kevo Abbra, Brian Babu, and Olivia Ambani, media, and friends.

Jal Gua cafe is now open to the public at Stall E8, Kenyatta Market, and serves African healthy food & delicacies. Opposite the café, is the Jal Gua health food store which sells healthy spices and organic food, skin, and hair products.
