Instagram To Pay Kenyan Creators Through Mpesa- Ruto

President William Ruto has announced a groundbreaking initiative for Kenyan digital creators, revealing that social platforms under the Meta brand, including Facebook and Instagram, will soon enable payments through the popular mobile money platform M-Pesa.

Speaking recently, Ruto disclosed that Meta’s team has successfully experimented with this concept, paving the way for Kenyan creators to receive their earnings directly via M-Pesa. This development addresses a significant hurdle faced by many digital creators in Kenya: the lack of accessible financial instruments for receiving payments.

Ruto expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, emphasizing the convenience and accessibility of using M-Pesa for transactions within the Kenyan digital landscape. He highlighted the imminent rollout of the eligibility program, expected to commence in the coming weeks, enabling creators to receive payments more efficiently.

The president shared these updates during a meeting with representatives from Meta, along with a group of content creators, where ongoing monetization plans were discussed.

According to Meta’s team, Kenyan creators can anticipate the ability to monetize their content by June, marking a significant milestone in their digital careers.

Acknowledging the importance of transparency, Ruto assured that details regarding eligibility criteria would be made available to all creators, ensuring equal opportunities for monetization. He underscored the significance of this initiative within the broader economic agenda, aimed at empowering every Kenyan to generate income and improve their livelihoods.

As the monetization plans progress, Ruto expressed gratitude to Facebook for its partnership and commitment to supporting Kenyan content creators on their journey towards financial empowerment. With eligibility criteria soon to be unveiled, Ruto emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative, offering creators additional avenues for revenue generation and economic advancement.
