The inaugural Kidscon was a huge success, with hundreds of children and parents attending the event held at Diamond Plaza II in Parklands, Nairobi, on August 19th. Though an offshoot of the renowned Naiccon event, Kidscon embraced a youthful spirit in line with Naiccon’s values and spirit.

Kidscon was specifically designed for kids with fun and educational activities. These include video games, ice skating, Rubik’s Cube solving, trampolines, science trivia, etc. There were also demonstrations by scientists on some familiar and basic science experiments. The children also could interact with mascots dressed as their favorite comic characters.

To spur healthy competition, some games were organized into a tournament, with the video game section attracting the largest crowds. Winners advanced to the next level until the eventual champion was determined. It was also fun to see parents go against their children in various competitions, which helped to bond families together. The pool game area was handy for parents as they could relax and socialize while their children enjoyed the other activities.
In addition to the games, there were sessions on internet safety and coding for kids. Here children and parents were taught about the dangers of online predators and how to keep children safe as they transverse the online space.

There were also exhibition booths from various brands that offered products and services for kids where one could get great discounts on items such as books, toys, and shoes, or even have a sketch of themselves done by an artist. Plenty of snacks were also available at affordable prices.
Lastly, the emcees and the DJs kept the crowd entertained throughout the day. The organizers are already planning for this year’s Naiccon 2023, which will be even bigger and better.
