How The First Rémy Martin Bartenders Competition Featuring King Kaka Went Down

Rémy Martin launched the first Bartenders competition in Kenya that saw top barmen and women show off their cocktail-making prowess. “Bartenders are our best brand advocates, this is why we want to connect with this Kenyan community even more. This is where the Rémy Martin competition comes in: a unique & thrilling competition to build a close relationship with the bartenders.” said a representative from Rémy Cointreau.

The Cognac brand has over the last year used King Kaka as their ambassador; who was present at Hero, the new space on top of the Trademark Hotel. Behind the bar, he made his own signature cocktail- “King Kaka” that was specially crafted during his visit to Cognac, back in May.

Back to the competition, the task of the day was to come up with any free creation using Rémy Martin VSOP as a base. They would then be judged on their storytelling, creativity, skills and taste. The competition was judged by King Kaka, Benu Kundra and Mickael Bonnamy Rémy’s East Africa’s Brand activator. Cate Rira also came through to hype the contestants up!

Blue Door, Tapas, Brew Bistro, Tribe Hotel and INTI were some of the represented bars. This may have been a competition but the mood couldn’t have been lighter. Check out the pictures below:

Kelvin Thairu from Trademark’s Hero bar was the winner. He will represent Kenya and participate in a 3-day live experience and educational program in France (Paris and Cognac) with the opportunity to develop his international network.

Rémy Martin meanwhile has other Kenyan personalities like Sheila Mwanyigha and Vinie O in Paris courtesy of the brand. Keep up with their experience on their social accounts.
