Love Yourself Some Hip Hop? Then Mark This Date!

If you’re a fan of Kenyan Hip Hop then this one is definitely going to be a plan you need to mark your calendar for. On the second of July, which is in two weeks time BTW, a bunch of talented rappers will be performing at The Alchemist in Westlands, an event dubbed It’s About Time.

These rappers may not be the ones you necessarily hear on the radio on heavy rotation but fact is, they’re really dope. I have them on my playlist and I have great taste in music so just take my word for it :-)

The line up has artists such as Timmy Tim and BV Accurate (members of a rap crew called Cr3w Teflon).

Poppa Don AKA The AfroLyricist. Poppa Don is a performing Hip Hop artist whose uniqueness stems from his ability to switch flows in three languages; English, Swahili and his native language, Dholuo. His style is a representation of what was pioneered by Gidi Gidi Maji Maji.

Shukid, a rapper working under ID37 Music who has released chart topping hits. He was also ranked as one of the top 10 MCs in Africa in 2014 & 2015 by a South African blog, Lobatan Africa and Nigerian blog Nairaland.

Kevin Grands, a Hip Hop/rap artist, music producer and mix engineer. Grands works under a Kenyan label called ID37, of which he is also a founding member. As a rapper, he draws sounds from modern day Hip Hop sounds.

Ace Tha Don, an urban Hip Hop/rap artist who mainly uses English in his music, characterized by dope lyrics and witty punchlines.

Also performing are Terianne, Ceezy, Alfa Mars, Ciku Shire, Jogs, Bakhita and on the decks there’s DJ Kace, Ace, Mvroe and Spens.

Gates open at 8 p.m. and all you need to do is have Kshs. 500 with you.

It’s about time young rappers on the come up were given an opportunity to shine, it’s about time we saw that Kenya has more than enough talent to offer and it’s about time we came out in large numbers to show support for Kenyan Hip Hop and see where it could go.

Quite honestly I look forward to what this night could be. Here’s hoping that all the artists on the line up are ready as well. Save the date (Saturday July 2nd).

See you there!
