My first encounter with Saint Patrick’s Day was…wait for it… on How I Met your Mother. Season 3 episode 12 to be precise (yes I had to google that to figure out the episode number) where Barney Stinson’s green suit and the Yellow Umbrella made their debut. It was a night of debauchery and green beer, green tea and a yellow umbrella that quite honestly, was the beginning of the whole series.
So what exactly is St. Paddy’s Day about? Well, it’s really supposed to be a celebration of the heritage and culture of the Irish, and it still is, but more recently, it’s also an excuse to try on that Irish accent, down a whole lot of booze and go out all decked in green, no wonder we love it!
Celebrated annually on the 17th of March, here’s where you want to be this St. Patrick’s Day. J’s Fresh Bar and Kitchen (Muthangari drive off Waiyaki Way) are “kicking off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with a bang, in conjunction with the Embassy of Ireland” (so you know you’re getting the authentic Irish experience here!) It’s their first time hosting the event and will, for this very special occasion, be celebrating it with an International Irish Band flown in by the Embassy of Ireland. You can’t get more Irish than that!

From 7pm till very very late here’s what you can look forward to; Jameson bottles on offer for only Ksh 6000, a special St. Paddy’s Cocktail that’s going for Ksh 600, and a jar for Ksh 1,200plus, to round off a fabulous evening, DJ Beng Beng will be on the decks!
Entrance is free, the dress code is Green and there’s an amazing prize for the best dressed!
