Nairobi Half Life is turning 10 years this year and to mark the anniversary, there’s an exciting upcoming event happening at iHub Nairobi to celebrate this anniversary.
On 2nd September 2012, a Crime feature Film from Kenya – produced by One Fine Day Films and Ginger Ink, premiered in packed Cinemas in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa – and then ran for another 22 Weeks! To date, the Internationally-acclaimed and Award-winning ‘Nairobi Half Life‘ still holds the Record for Cinema attendance for a local Film in Kenya.
This coming Wednesday 31st August 2022, the 2nd monthly MyMovies.Africa™ Watch Party celebrates the 10th Anniversary of this Milestone, with the cast, crew and fans, as #WeWatchKenyan at iHub Nairobi and via ZOOM.
“As a distributor of Hollywood and Bollywood to cinema since 2000, I was there when ‘Nairobi Half Life‘ premiered”, says Ms. Trushna Buddhdev-Patel, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Kenyan startup YAKWETU™. “I was very Impressed! ‘Nairobi Half Life‘ has been Available to Rent or Own on MyMovies.Africa™ since our Launch, so we’re very excited to also be hosting this celebration.”
Supporting #WeWatchKenyan, the monthly MyMovies.Africa™ Watch Parties at iHub Nairobi are aimed at promoting local Film and Content, as well as building a Community of Kenyan creatives who actually watch Kenyan content!
In addition to a screening, complete with popcorn and drinks, each MyMovies.Africa™ Watch Party includes a very interactive hour-long Question & Answer session, between the audience, cast, and crew.
Award-winning Director – Tosh Gitonga, as well as actor (& director) – Mugambi Nthiga (Cedric), plus Editor – Mkaiwawi Mwakaba (Mkay), and co-writer – Serah Mwihaki will be the panelists.
This screening of ’Nairobi Half Life’ comes just 2 months after the untimely demise of one of its Stars – Olwenya Maina (Oti), so it shall also be a fitting tribute.
As part of their STAWI Spaces programme, African Creative Industry enabler – Creative Economy Practice (CEP) at CcHub has partnered with YAKWETU™ Online Limited, for monthly screenings & discussions of films from Kenya and Africa. MyMovies.Africa™ Watch Parties are also supported by iHub, Kenya Film Commission, Kenyan Originals, Milya’s Popcorn, BeeTeez Bistro and EnM Group.
