From Nairobi to Manchester: Kenyan Rugby Prodigy Aymen Onyango Signs for Manchester City’s Under-9 Team, Following In His Father’s Footsteps

Kenya Rugby League development manager Lucas Onyango is bursting with pride as his son, Aymen Onyango, has just signed for Manchester City’s under-9 team.

The ecstatic father shared the news on Twitter, announcing that Aymen has been working incredibly hard to get to this point and that the family is over the moon.

“Our son Aymen Onyango is now officially a Manchester City player after signing for the under 9’s. In my life, I have never been this proud and this boy has worked hard to get here. The journey begins now that he has progresses through the academy. We are all over the moon,” he tweeted.

Onyango senior himself played for the Kenyan sevens team, The Shujaa, before eventually settling in the UK with his family.

Aymen’s recent signing sees him joining a growing list of players with Kenyan roots who are making waves in prestigious academies across England. It remains to be seen whether he will one day feature for City’s senior team, but the Onyangos are certainly hopeful.
