From Debutants To Cultural Defining Ones, A Look At Best Of Kenya’s 2022 Events

2022 was an eventful year, off the blues of the COVID-19 Pandemic and amid the buzz of the general election. The party scene stayed alive as local and international artists put up show-stopping events to keep fans thrilled.

While some events in this list were one-offs, the majority are annual events that you might want to include on your 2023 events calendar.

Nairobi Festival Debut

A first-ever, Nairobi Festival came in a special way to showcase the best of the city.

Officially launched on 12th December 2022, the event provided a space for Kenyans to interact with and appreciate the city’s diverse food, culture, and art including 16 locally produced films and movies.

The six-day event went down at Uhuru Park.

Safari Rally – 2022

Safari rally enthusiasts had a reason to be excited in 2022.

The epic sense of adventure, challenging closed dirt roads, stunning picture-postcard scenery, exotic wildlife, and the passion from the locals saw revellers converge in Naivasha to witness the thrilling chase from June 23rd to 26th, 2022 as over a record 850 Million streamed online.

Oktoba Fest Tusker Nexters Talent Search

The third edition of Tusker’s Oktoba Fest Saw a new twist to what has turned out to be one of Kenya’s biggest annual events.

In March 2022, the event took up a talent search competition dubbed ‘Tusker Nexters’, which culminated in the winner announcement at the closing of the three-day festival.

Headlining acts at the Oktoba Festival included Khaligraph Jones, Nyashinski, Mejja, Chris Kaiga, Femi One, Arrow Bwoy, Ben Soul, Nadia Mukami …

The event that took place in October saw over 18 artists take the stage at Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi.

Kleptomaniax Reunion at ShinCity

For Old School Kenyan music lovers, ShinCity was one for the books.

The event saw one of Kenya’s top rappers Nyashinski put up a once-in-a-lifetime show.

However, the climax of the concert was the reunion Kleptomaniax, a rap group from Nairobi – formed back in 1999 by three talented friends Nyashinski l, Collo and Roba.

Sol Fest 2022

Even though the second edition of Sol Fest was a bag of mixed emotions for the attendees who wished to have seen the headline performer Sauti Sol perform for a longer time, the event was one of 2022’s biggest.

Sol Fest saw local and international acts put on electrifying performances on 17th December at the KICC.

The Kenya International Polo Tournament.

The international Polo Tournament attracted both local and international players.

Marking the climax of the Kenyan polo season, the tournament organized over two weekends was a combo of riveting polo, fashion, drinks, conversation, and networking with the who’s who.

The tournament was the ticket to enjoy a glorious day basking in the beautiful sun at Jamhuri Park/ Polo grounds in Nairobi on the two weekends.

Blankets and Wine.

In its 14th year, Blankets and Wine was held at Karasani’s Moi International Sports Center.

Segmented into two, for families with kids and a sundowner for adults to wind the night away, attendees were treated to an exciting but family-friendly show.
