We often hear the classic black dress, the classic white shirt. What is it that makes the term “classic” important to any budding fashionista?
A classic is a term used to refer to a style that never goes out of style. The following are your five must haves.
Little Black Dresses
Coco Chanel did just that when she invented the Little Black dress. It is an iconic dress which accentuates the silhouette of any female. The Little black dress famously known as an LBD is a must in a woman’s closet.
Kerry Washington rocks an LBD with nude pumps.
Classic White Shirt
Thanks to the Gap, Banana Republic and a ton of other stores, the white shirt can be accessible all year long. It can be dressed up with pants, a pencil skirt, and even show up at the Oscars. What? Yes, Oscars! This happened when Sharon stone showed up with her then husband’s shirt to the 1998 Oscars and more recently Octavia Spencer at a Red Carpet event just last year.
A definite must have!
Classic Black Pumps
One can never go wrong with a pair of black heels in their closet. They go with almost anything. Don a pair of jeans with a white tee and a gorgeous pair of black pumps on your feet and your look is an instant hit. They go with anything you pair up whether it’s for a work, cocktail party, wedding, the list is endless.
Statement Purse
A purse that goes with any outfit you have. The accent to the outfit, that’s a statement bag.
Pair of Jeans
Much has been said about the denim. Yves Saint Laurent summed it up well when he said, “I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, and simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”
Other classic styles include the white tee, fitted jacket/blazer, turtleneck top, classic trench, cocktail ring, and the pencil skirt.
Trends will come in to play, but they change faster than the blink of an eye, it is important to use these classic styles as the main foundation of your wardrobe, then add some current trends to accentuate your style.
