Kenya Film Commission Is Back With Empowerment Program

The Film Empowerment Programme is calling for submissions for its 2nd edition. Organized by the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), this project aims to increase the number of locally produced quality film content by funding the Development and Production of Kenyan Films and also Film Festivals and Marketing.

According to the organizers, both individuals and companies can apply for the funding which may come in form of a loan, grant or investment. A select committee of seasoned filmmakers will review the submitted applications and award the most deserving. Proposals will be accepted for film funding once throughout the year from 1st July 2020 to 30th June 2021. Priority will be given to children’s content.

Interested applicants must be applying for funding for projects within the prescribed film parameters. They will be required to submit various documents such as Completed Application Forms, Motivation Letters, Treatment Chain of Titles, Proof of Copyright, Writers’ and Producers’ CVs, Development Budgets and Schedules, Production Plans, Writers’ Narrative Treatments, Target Audience/Distribution Plans, Company Production Track Records and Company Registration Documents where applicable and Proof of Kenyan Identity. The commission will approve funding quarterly throughout the financial year of 1st July to 30th June. Applicants will be responded to writing and the list of approved applications will be published. Applications can be sent via email to or by hand delivery at the KFC offices in Jumuia Place 2, Kilimani along Lenana Road Nairobi. The submission deadline is 18th December 2020.
