Highly acclaimed Kenyan recording and performing artist, Fena Gitu, has been announced as the Ambassador of the Month for February by Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program.
Boasting over 13 years of experience Gitu shared insights into her music career, revealing her diverse aspirations beyond music.
The Kenyan artist expressed her gratitude upon learning about the ambassadorship and also expressed her desire to explore various roles in multiple lifetimes.
“It’s an immense honor to be recognised on Spotify EQUAL as a leading female voice to listen out for on the continent. I do hope that my music continues to inspire hope and love to heal generations, spreading around good vibes for the mind, body, and soul all over the world,” she stated.
Fena Gitu was further questioned to learn more about her music. Here are her responses:
To someone who has never heard your music, how would you describe the sound, tone, and style?
FG: I describe my style in music and fashion as Fenamenal; soulful Afro-urban fusion. The tone is aspirational, seasoned, nostalgic, refreshing, witty, and calm. Keen on lyrical wordplay and melodies, wrapped in an irresistible Eastlando bounce.
What is that one surprising thing your fans might not know about you?
FG: In multiple lifetimes, I would love to be a gospel choir director, an EDM DJ / Producer, a race car driver, an international diplomat, a fashion director, a comedy/drama writer, a film producer, and many other hidden curiosities. And still, I’m an introvert.
Any advice for someone dreading following their dreams?
FG: Do it afraid. Just, keep doing it!
The program aims to provide resources and opportunities to female artists, showcasing their music to a global audience through EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global playlists.
Previous ambassadors include Yemi Alade, Grammy winner Tyla, and Nikita Kering.
