Femi One’s #16DaysofActivism Message

Every year starting from November 25th to 10th December the world marks #16DaysofActivism against Gender-Based Violence.

The campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. – UN Women

In Kenya, the message is being spread by several media houses, and media personalities and celebrities are also part of the important movement highlighting organizations working with women and girls who need help. Femi One joins personalities such as Adele Onyango, Janet Mbugua, and others who have been vocal about women’s rights over the years.

“Join me on the #16DaysOfActivistm as I partner with @thegirlgen to help stop FGM (female genital mutilation). We are calling for the need of more rescue centers for FGM survivors, properly trained personnel on how to treat FGM, and mental health support for these victims. Keep it here for more info on the letters we will be sending out to The President of Kenya! Lend your voice to this matter, together we can end FGM! Better4Kenya

Better Kenya enlisted various Kenyan personalities such as Maureen Waititu, Stella Bosier, Alvin, Marto, Kalekye Mumo to address topics we should focus on as a country.

Femi One was recently named AFRIMMA’s Best Female African Rapper and also got to curate a playlist for apple music .

“In support of this civil society initiative, the United Nations Secretary-General launched in 2008 the campaign UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women, which runs parallel to the 16 Days of Activism. Every year, the UNiTE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. This year’s theme is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” and invites everyone to play their role in ending violence against women and girls, show support and solidarity to women’s rights activists and to resist the rollback on women’s rights.”
