Rapper Katapilla is the newest millionaire in town after he bagged the OdiNare Rap Challenge KES 1 Million grand prize. The challenge which was sponsored by betting company Odi Bets and Khaligraph Jones, made a call for applications from upcoming rappers last month.
Participating in the OdiNare challenge required the rappers to make videos of themselves rapping to a premade beat sample and upload them on Instagram while tagging Khaligraph and Odi Bets. There were daily winners who received cash prizes of KES 10,000 each.
Following Katapilla was rapper Ben C who received a cash prize of KES 500,000 and Real Elisha Elai who got Ksh 300,000. Rappers Achicho Dimpoz, Murasta and Shekina followed the top 3, receiving cash prizes of 50,000 each. All the top 6 winners will also get a recording deal with Khaligraph’s label Blu Ink.
Katapilla who has been a fast rising rapper, emerged top after beating the hundreds of the rappers who made their submissions. His catalogue is packed amazing yet underrated jams such as FWTB, RapEscobar, Swali and Heshima Na Doh among others.
The Swali Hitmaker together with rappers Hassano and Chumba, are members of Hip Hop group Afrocentric which boasts of having hits such as Si Mtangoja, Nimerudi and Made In Kenya just to mention a few. Katapilla has also received co-signs from Khaligraph in in the past when he got featured in some of Khaligraph’s top songs such as Luku and Khali Cartel 2.
