Explosive Telenovela, Salem Set To Hit TV Screens This April

Telenovela seems to be the new favorite genre for Kenyan filmmakers and audiences. The lovers of this film genre are in for yet another treat as the new TV series Salem is hitting TV screens next month. According to Maisha Magic, Salem will start airing on Maisha Magic East (DStv Channel 163 and GOtv Supa Channel 8) on Monday 11 April at 8.30 pm.

Salem’s storyline revolves around two families – The Mufasas and the Karanis. The film is a tale of inequality and the fine line between wealth and poverty. The Mufasa family is opulent and inhabits the plush Karen neighborhood and enjoys the finest that money can buy. On the other hand, the Karanis are from a humble and chaotic background in Salem.

Despite their different lifestyles, the two families’ worlds dramatically intersect as the plot thickens. The unexpected twists and turns in the plot unveil the cracks hidden beneath the glossy lives led by the Mufasas. According to Salem’s producers, the storyline is not only riveting but also has relatable characters.

Described as an explosive telenovela, Salem was directed by acclaimed film director Likarion Wainaina. Its cast features some of Kenya’s finest actors and actresses. They include Mumbi Maina, Foi Wambui, Melvin Alusa, Brian Kabugi, Ruth Maingi, Kael Njihia, Jacky Kaboi, and Audi Rowa, just to mention a few. Furthermore, classic Kenyan Drama Tausi actress Ruth Apondi is also making a powerful TV comeback on this show.

Speaking on the new show, Salem’s executive producer Njoki Muhoho noted. “The ongoing creation of new content across various genres is beneficial to many, not just socio-economically but creatively as well. This highly acclaimed show is testimony that our creative industry is rising to the challenge of creating local content, as told through our own lens”

Salem replaces the long-running popular Telenovela Selina whose episodes are coming to an end this April.
