Everything You Need To Know About The Upcoming Byron Belle’s Audio Masterclass

In the heart of Africa’s live production landscape, a sonic revolution is brewing, and at its helm is Byron Belle. Byron is a US-based audio engineering expert with Kenyan roots and his illustrious career spans over 15 years. Having worked with global superstars like Chris Brown, Eve, and Gladys Knight, his reputation precedes him in the live production and events world. Now, he is channeling his passion and expertise into an ambitious endeavor: a four-day masterclass aimed at revolutionizing the audio industry in Kenya and beyond.

From October 18th to 21st, at the Parklands Baptist Church, Byron Belle will host a masterclass. Dubbed the Advancing Audio Masterclass, this promises to be a game-changer. Alongside him will stand four other industry experts: Chris Pou, Systems and Front of House Engineer; Shanon Austin, Speaker, and Audio Engineer; Brandon Thompson, Systems Integrator and IT Specialist; and Shelton Morgan, House of Worship Front of House Engineer and Live Stream Engineer. Together, they form a formidable team with a collective wealth of experience, having toured with A-list artists.

The masterclass’s focus is clear: to strengthen the foundational knowledge of sound engineering. Participants can expect in-depth sessions covering Front-of-House and Monitor Sound Engineering, Systems Engineering and Wireless Technology, Advanced Mixing and Lighting Integration, and Broadcast and Streaming Engineering. Byron Belle’s vision is simple yet profound: to improve the quality of sound at live events by nurturing a cadre of highly skilled sound engineering professionals.

In recent times, Kenya has faced challenges in live event sound production, leading to dissatisfaction among attendees. Byron Belle identifies a shift in the industry dynamics, pointing out, “A lot of businessmen involved in the space… don’t know what they are doing, undercutting the professionals and diluting the quality of live productions in Kenya.” He speaks.

An Inclusive Learning Opportunity

While the masterclass delves deep into audio engineering, it is not limited to audio professionals alone. “The class will be heavily audio-involved. However, we are not strictly targeting audio engineers, so camera operators, video engineers, and lighting engineers, are all welcome.” Byron Belle enthusiastically invites all production professionals interested in upskilling. Interested participants can pay for a day, season or group pass via Mookh.

Byron Belle’s ambitions extend far beyond Kenya’s borders. He envisions this masterclass as a catalyst for change across Africa. “To get this level of training, one has to study abroad, so we are excited to bring this education home.” He shares. With plans to expand and collaborate with partners and sponsors, the team aspires to spread their expertise and elevate audio standards continent-wide.

As technology advances, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in live production is a topic of keen interest. “We haven’t seen much AI in live production but it has its advantages, like automating system processes so we are looking forward to seeing how AI technology will make our work easier.” He concludes.
