2017 was a tricky year for the music calendar in the 254, given an unexpected extension of the election season. A number of musical performances by international artists had to be postponed for one reason or another – but with that loss, comes our gain in 2018!
Already, we have quite a bit to look forward to, and we’re still in the first month of November!
Africa Nouveau a 2 day, 2 night festival in Athi River had been expected to help close out the year, but there was an obvious need to push it forward. Thankfully, the crew behind what should be a pretty epic weekend out of town was committed to ensuring that everything goes ahead as promised.
The dates have now been set, and you can start planning for your road trip on the 2nd of February. Supported by the British Council, the festival returns to Nairobi under this year’s theme “Afrobubblegum” – a celebration of fun and fantastical African creativity borne out of love.
According to organisers, there will be a live music stage and an after hours DJ stage, a film stage featuring film makers from across Africa delivered on a screen and on virtual reality headsets, a style bazaar featuring products from fashion, accessories and homeware designers, a wellness zone featuring zumba and yoga classes and wholesome organic refreshments, a renew & recharge zone where festival attendees will create energy to charge phones by cycling, a fully serviced camping experience plus a host of food and drinks stalls.
Gear up friends, #AfricaNouveau is about to start you off to an amazing experience!💃🏾 Designed to showcase the most innovative, cutting edge trend setting artists and art forms over 2 days, come experience something fun, fierce & fantastical! 🤹🏾♂️ https://t.co/6bHgghaoL2 pic.twitter.com/mKvAnrXW1K

The magnificent Jazzy Jeff had been expected in the 254 at the end of October, but again as a result of the elections, had to be pushed forward. It had been set to be hosted by H.Y.P.E & CodeRED Entertainment and will now be going ahead on the 5th of May this year. This means you have a few more months to get familiar with what he’s all about, just in case you have fallen off since his Will Smith days. Jazzy Jeff is a beast on the decks. We can’t wait!
Freddie McGregor is yet another act who’s performance had to be rescheduled from early December. No word as yet on when he will be performing in the 254, but for now – we still have quite a bit to look forward to!
