Enos Olik’s Riveting Youth Drama “Jiji” To Premiere This June

Giant Streamer Showmax is set to unveil a new original dubbed “Jiji.” Premiering on 17 June, Jiji is a captivating youth drama that dives deep into the turbulent lives of four young girls navigating the harsh realities of Jericho, a low-income settlement in Nairobi. Forced into a life of crime to survive, these girls’ stories are heart-wrenching and compelling.

Plot Overview

The series centers around 18-year-old Julz, a determined young woman who would go to any length to support her family. Her younger brother’s acceptance into a prestigious international school adds to her burdens. This pushes Julz and her three friends into taking a high-stakes job for Jericho’s notorious kingpin, Makali. This decision sets off a chain of tragic events that irrevocably alters their lives.

Director Enos Olik, known for his work on Famous, encapsulates the raw and authentic experiences of life in Nairobi’s ghettos. “Capturing the raw and authentic experiences of life in the ghetto, Jiji delves into the nuanced lives of four young women, each with unique strengths and vulnerabilities, as they navigate a world that constantly pulls them back into crime,” says Olik. The intense emotional and moral conflicts, combined with the dynamic setting of Eastlands, promise a gripping and heartfelt narrative that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Behind the Scenes

Olik leads a predominantly young cast, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the production. “It’s been a collaborative effort working with them. Their enthusiasm and commitment to portraying their characters’ struggles and growth add a vibrant and realistic touch to the series. It’s also inspiring to see how they connect with the material, drawing from their own experiences and observations to bring depth to their performances,” Olik shares.

Jiji is co-directed by Edwin Kamau, Njue Kevin, Isaya Evans, and Michael Jones, all bringing their unique visions and expertise to the project.
