Eliud Kipchoge Scores Laureus Sports Awards Nomination

World Marathon recorder holder, Olympic finalist and 2018 Safaricom’s Sports Personality of the Year Eliud Kipchoge just scored a nomination at the prestigious Laureus World Sports Award 2019.

The 34-year-old Kenyan elite runner made it among other six dignified personalities from different sports. They include two football stars: France’s 2018 World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe, and the FIFA World Cup’s 2018 Best Player and Ballon d’Or, Luka Modric from Croatia.

World’s number one singles Tennis star Novak Djokovic, LeBron James, who features for Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the USA, and Formula One world champion, Lewis Hamilton are the other nominees.

Kipchoge hit headlines in the world when he shattered the world record to time 2:01:39 after winning the 2018 Berlin Marathon. He kicked off the year in perfect form with a victory at the London Marathon in 2:04:017 in April which was registered as the 15th fastest time over 42km race.
