Dela ‘Re-Fixes’ National Anthem For Jamhuri Day (Listen)

Her vocal chops ain’t nothing to mess with. The afro pop singer Dela has proven time and again that she is just that good. Of course her ‘Hello’ cover was a massive couple for her with regards to international visibility. But aside from that and all the acclaim she received on the back of it, her voice can seemingly doing it all.

In time for Jamhuri Day, the musician who is under the Taurus Musik staple of artists has released her rendition of the Kenya National Anthem – imparting her flavour and skill into a modern interpretation of our country’s ‘mission statement’.

The tune was produced by her long term collaborator, Sauti Sol’s Polycarp Otieno. He also worked with her on the ‘Hello’ cover and clearly knows just how to get the most from her voice.

The video is moody and textured and a nice compliment to the drama that her voice brings to the melody which sounds haunting, when she lets go.

Dela has been tearing up the radio over the past couple of months with a collaboration between herself and the award winning collection H_Art The Band. She is one of the 254’s biggest female artists whose consistent releases mean she’s not only been putting in work, but that she’s also taking music seriously. It’s great to see. From tunes such as Mafeelings and Third Party Lover, to well thought out mainstream collaborations, it’ll be interesting to see what she gets up to next. As for this – it’s a nice way to end out the year.
