Crispy Fresh: New Music From The Kenyan Scene This Week!

18 January of 2019 by

Welcome to another edition of our weekly music review where we check out what’s the latest in the world of music. Following the conversation of #PlayKenyanMusic, content is steadily flowing in. This is what’s hot on the Kenyan music scene.

Drinx na Mayenx – Masta Ajab, Konkodi, Brian Nadra & Bon’Eye

This viral hit off the freshly released Decimal Records’ album, ‘Decimator Volume 1’ is a club hit. The jam produced by Musyoks has the Kapuka club bang but the rap is everything on the track. The ingenious use of new age sheng to talk about a lit party gives the jam an edge. I’d rate it 8/10.

Fire -P-Unit Feat Magix Enga

The first single from P-Unit teaming up with producer extraordinaire Magix Enga to give this dancehall tune some fire. The jam has elements of the retro P-Unit sound, easy flow and painting a picture with words. Commenting on the jam Frasha says ‘With the ongoing debate on ‘Support Kenyan Music’ we figured that we need to play our part in the industry and that is giving our fans content and new music. Now it’s your turn to play your part.”

Bembea – Spizzo & Bandana

The boys Spizzo and Bandana from the Coast region blessed with some Swahili melodies are back with a new hit. The pair has a distinct sound toggling in Swahili and English and the end product is soothing to the ear. This jam Bembea describes having a great time with family and friends and overall breaking into the music scene.

Wabebe – Gwaash, Vuva & B Razor

The makers of hit song ‘Sponyo‘ are back again with a hood anthem ‘Wabebe‘, which is another sheng class edutainment for us all. First play I thought the crew are talking about travelling in a matatu but there is more to that. The boys narrate stories in sheng describing chasing ladies topped up with road lingo that makes you smile listening to the jam.
