Comedian Eric Omondi Arrested For Leading Protest Outside Parliament

Comedian Eric Omondi has been arrested outside parliament, Tuesday, February 21st after leading a group of protesters dissatisfied over the high cost of living.

The half-naked demonstrators assembled in Nairob’s CBD (Central Business District) and blocked Parliament Road demanding an audience with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

They could be seen carrying placards written ‘high cost of living’, and ‘high cost of electricity and cooking oil’.

As they attempted to storm the parliament building the protestors were pushed back by police who opted to lob tear gas at them in an effort to push them back.

The group of demonstrators blamed the National Assembly for deceiving citizens and passing the Finance Act which resulted in high taxes.

Recent reports from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) indicate there is a 9 percent inflation rate hence leading to the rise in commodities such as cooking oil, maize flour, and sugar.

Azimio la Umoja leaders lauded the protesters while also encouraging more Kenyans to put pressure on President Ruto’s government.

“Welcome aboard Eric Omondi, more people will join our movement of change – the cost of living is too high,” Narok Senator Ledama Olekina stated.
