Dennis Ombachi, alias The Roaming Chef, featured on CNN’s African Voices Playmakers where Larry Madowo interviewed the former Kenya 7’s star on his transition from a sportsman to a prominent content creator.
According to Dennis, while at Kisii School he only participated in the sport because he would be exempted from school duties. He never initially intended to get into rugby let alone thought that he would eventually become a professional.
Being one of Kenya’s most famous rugby athletes, he further explained how he scored the pivotal try that lead Kenya to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“At the time I was not aware of how big an achievement that was but as years passed I realized it was a great accomplishment. We were seconds away from being knocked out but we clinched it right at the end,” he said.
However, until the pandemic hit that The Roaming Chef tried his hand at content creation, specifically cooking. After receiving positive feedback from his audience he soon began to blow up on social media.
His hard work and creativity eventually paid off when in 2022, he was nominated as Africa’s best content creator. The Roaming Chef currently has over 1 million followers on Instagram and 2.2 million followers on TikTok.
