Celebrating Soulful Sounds of Nairobi’s Alternative Pop Artists

Nairobi’s music scene is about to witness an electrifying celebration of alternative pop and R&B artists as Meet Me Kenya, the prominent artist collective, prepares to host a three-day extravaganza like never before. With a series of successful events under their belt, Meet Me Kenya is taking a bold step forward, stringing together three unforgettable days of soulful melodies and mesmerizing performances. This highly anticipated festival promises to be an unparalleled experience, showcasing the finest talents from Nairobi’s burgeoning alternative music community.

Established in 2022, Meet Me Kenya quickly made its mark as an artist collective synonymous with unique sounds and thought-provoking lyrics. Spearheaded by the multi-talented musician and founder, Ndung’u Mbithi, Meet Me Kenya’s mission has been to provide a platform for artists who utilize alternative music to express their vulnerabilities and explore introspection. Drawing inspiration from musical greats like Low The Band, Radiohead, and Daniel Caesar, Ndung’u Mbithi’s distinctive sound incorporates elements of indie pop and bedroom pop, coupled with minimalist production techniques. With a keen focus on nurturing local talent, Meet Me Kenya’s previous single-day events have been met with resounding success, earning them a dedicated fan base.

This year, Meet Me Kenya is pushing the boundaries further by embarking on a three-day musical journey. Ndung’u Mbithi explains, “We use a model where we alternate between daytime events and nighttime events. With this festival, we decided to combine those concepts, blend them together, and do it three days in a row. It should be exciting.” This visionary approach sets the stage for an unprecedented experience, allowing artists to showcase their artistry through a diverse range of performances and interactions with a captivated audience.

The festival kicks off on July 28 at the vibrant Bistro Adreno, where the atmosphere will be charged with the soul-stirring melodies of Ndung’u Mbithi, Ashley Kitonga, and Kay Khali. Supported by talented DJs Unjust, Capespring, and Karuga, this day promises to be a dynamic blend of raw emotions and foot-tapping beats. The venue will come alive from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with tickets priced at an affordable 500 KES, making it an event accessible to all music enthusiasts.

On July 29, the spotlight will shift to The Shelter, where audiences will be treated to the enchanting sounds of Zowie Kengocha, Capespring, and a captivating performance by Ndung’u Mbithi. Accompanied by the melodic tunes of DJs Mr. Lu* and Agose, this day will continue the festival’s journey into the heart of alternative pop music. Tickets for Day 2 are priced at 800 KES, offering attendees an elevated musical experience.

The grand finale on July 30 is reserved for an extraordinary event at Happening Arts on State Hse Road. Meet Me Kenya is introducing their first-ever Meet Me Pop Up, an innovative hybrid affair that combines music with a vibrant marketplace. The Rugbones, an exceptional band, will grace the stage alongside DJs Rabudi and Sayankah. The best part? Entry is absolutely free, allowing everyone to join in the festivities and explore an array of products from local vendors.
