Realness Institute, in partnership with the Swiss Locarno Filmmakers Academy, is calling for submissions for their 2022 edition of the Realness African Screenwriters’ Residency. This is the 7th installment of the residency that seeks to discover and empower exemplary African screenwriters.
“After five years of an inspiring and fruitful collaboration between Realness and the Locarno Film Festival, by selecting every year one Realness talent for our prestigious Filmmakers Academy, we’re happy to deepen our exchanges by welcoming all the Realness participants in our new creative initiative called BaseCamp.” Said Head of Locarno Filmmakers’ Academy and BaseCamp Project Manager Stefano Knuchel.
According to the Realness Institute, the program will select 6 African filmmakers from the submissions made. The selected participants will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop their fiction film stories. Furthermore, these participants will be trained by experts in a three-month residency. This program also includes attending film industry programs in South Africa, Nigeria, and Switzerland.
The cohort will spend 6 weeks at the tranquil and nurturing Nirox and Farmhouse 58, in South Africa. In addition, they will also attend the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Nigeria, and the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The residency will take place from 3rd August to 13th November 2022. It is open to any African on the continent or living in the Diaspora.
To participate, one must have a valid African Passport. 60-100% of the content submitted must be shot in Africa and the work must be fiction. Are you up for the task? Then hurry and click here to make your submission before the 7th March 2022 deadline.
