Cake Festival @10 Was A Sweet Affair

The 10th edition of Cake Festival finally went down at the Carnivore Grounds this past Saturday. Tons of cake lovers and bakers streamed in to taste and showcase various types of cakes. Over 50 exhibitors showcased their products such as cakes, baking ingredients, baking equipment, décor, household goods and spices among others. The event was organized by Edumed Trust an organization that sponsors bright needy students through school.

Some of the exhibitors present included bakeries such as Cake City, Valentine Cake House, Muthoni’s Oven, Loris Bakery, Wendo Cakes, Hadassa Cakes, The Quiet Place Bakery, Kobbi’s Oven, Healthy Bakes, Mernica’s Bakery, Krumble and Dancing Whisk among others. There were also other exhibitors such as Moringa Tea, Vitu Zote, Angelight Trading, Dairyland, Chibundiro, Unga Limited, Edumed Trust and Tinsel Décor among others.

Attendees were treated to sweet treats such as sampling of over 200 varieties of cake, show-stopping cake designs, kid zone, beautiful live music and dance and a live bake-off. The Bake Off saw 3 bakers compete against each other for the coveted prize of a Hotpoint voucher worth KES 105,000. The runners up and the third winner received a Hot Point Vouchers worth KES 50,000 and KES 25,000 respectively.

This edition’s Bake Off winner was  Yunike who baked a carrot cake. Other participants such as Kobby’s Oven, Kericho Gold, Muthoni’s Oven, Mystic Bakers, Cake City, Rio Bakers and Magarita Bakers also received awards for their various outstanding contributions to the success of the event.

So far Edumed has educated over 400 needy students through the proceeds from Cake Festival. Some of these beneficiaries have received scholarships to study both within Kenya and abroad. Currently, 95 students are in the program and Edumed hopes to continue supporting more students. Cake Festival was sponsored by corporates such as Unga Limited, Switch TV, Naivas Supermarket, Ola Energy, Coca Cola, Transmara Sugar and Kenya Power & Lighting Company among others.
