Kenyan singer, producer and director Blinky Bill has enlisted veteran presenter Mambo Mbotela for his new release “Mungu Halali”.
The song, which also features Sage, Sarah Mitaru, Wambura Mitaru and Lisa Oduor Noah, is from his album “Everyone is Winging it and Other Fly Tales” and is a declaration of gratitude according to the storied singer.
“If you’re going through a hard time or have been over the past, this is your song of encouragement. I felt like I wanted to do something like that.” says Bill.
“A lot of things in my life inspired Mungu Halali. Like the times when you feel you are not really going to make it and then somehow it happen that you pull through. It’s a song of thanksgiving. I have just seen the hand of the good Lord in my life even when I thought that I didn’t deserve that shot.”
Leonard Mambo Mbotela is one of the best presenters Kenyans have seen since Independence. Famously known for his catchphrase “Jee huu ni ungwana” and several other popular programs that aired on KBC TV,
Mbotela at his peak ruled the airwaves in Kenya.
Bill aims at evoking childhood memories for 70s, 80s and early 90s babies by featuring him in the song.
The video also features Blinky’s parents and an artsy lot of Nairobians like Patricia Kihoro, Lyra Aoko and Wanja Wohoro.
