The trending hashtag for the new movie featuring our very own Lupita Nyong’o is still trending since its teaser trailer was released a few days ago. Yes the hashtag #BlackPantherSoLit is an indication that we want this film out now. But it isn’t the only indication.
In just 24 hours, the Marvel Studio’s trailer for the upcoming movie had managed to rack up a ridiculous 89 million views. That’s Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande territory. And all this for a film featuring a majority black cast set in the fictional country of Wakanda.
We’re ready for it.
The Black Panther teaser debuted (fittingly) during Game 4 of the NBA finals late last week – before making its way through to social media where it was quickly the number 1 global trending topic.
The film comes out on the 16th of February 2018 – which sounds ridiculously far away.
Chadwick Boseman is playing T’Challa, aka Black Panther, the king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda who must defend his people from both internal and external threats, while our Lupita takes on the role of Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard known as the Dora Milaje.
Fierce as she is, she is also the jealous type. The traditional purpose of the Dora Milaje is to help the king choose a queen from among the strongest women in Wakanda. It will be interesting to see the kind of chemistry between her and Boseman – as well as the rest of the cast.
Roll on, Feb 18th!
