Best Of 2020 Kenyan Music Collaborations – Part 2

As promised, the 2nd part of Kenya’s iconic collabs is here! In case you are yet to check out Part 1, please do. So without any further ado let’s dive right in:

Kalale – Willis “Bazu” Raburu, Rekless, Breeder LW, Mejja & Ssaru

This song marked the music debut of TV anchor Willis Raburu. The track which also brought Gengetone heavyweights Rekless, Breeder LW, Mejja & Ssaru together was well received by fans. At barely a day old, Kalale had over 100K views and was trending at number one on YouTube.

Lesotho – Nviiri The Story Teller Ft Ray Gee

When former street boy Ray Gee confessed his admiration for Sol Generation signee Nviiri, that marked the beginning of the making of a hit. The two got into studio and made this amazing jam in which they flaunted their songwriting and vocal abilities while inspiring their listeners.

Wamocho – Mbogi Genje & Richy Haniel Ft. Mejja

This list would be incomplete without a Mbogi Genje song. The Gengetone trio has revolutionized the scene with their new language and culture that has attracted tons of Kenyans. Adding Richy Haniel and Mejja on this beat, made Wamocho a certified collab.

Kamati Ya Roho Chafu – Willy Paul & Bien

What do you get when you combine two talented vocalists, a popular phrase, a catchy hook and a well-choreographed music video? A certified hit, and that is exactly what Kamati Ya Roho Chafu is.

Pakua – Jovial  Ft Mejja

Songbird Jovial is a star on the rise and 2020 has been proved that. Her track Pakua featuring Mejja was the perfect blend of Bongo Flava, R&B and Gengetone Rap and fans are still digging it.

Watabonga – H_art The Band Ft Khaligraph Jones

This jam was the perfect dedication to naysayers making it easy to relate to. H_art The Band’s amazing voices, Khaligraph’s rap and easy-going beat jelled well together making it a fans’ best pick.

Rada – Naboi Ft Avril

The upbeat tempo of this track got many on their feet. Naiboi’s catchy hook and Avril’s smooth voice made it easy to jam to.

Anaona – Ben Cyco Ft Kambua

This track was the perfect inspirational song for the hard times that 2020 came with. Ben Cyco and Kambua should do more collaborations as they blended well on this song. Accompanied by a colorful music video that featured popular influencers the Wajesus Family, the track definitely managed to convey its message.

Ni Kubaya – Breeder LW & Khaligraph Jones

Any Hip Hop head can agree that this was a massive tune. From the well-layered beat to the bars from both rappers and even the music video. Ni Kubaya couldn’t get any more legit.

Leo Ssaru Ft Mejja

This was a highly anticipated collaboration as it had tongues wagging way before its official release. The chemistry between the two performers in the music video made this jam even bigger.

Lela – Octopizzo Ft Suzanna Owiyo

Off his latest album Jungle Fever, this track was a unique infusion of Hip Hop, Ohangla and Afro-Fusion. Its rich beat, Octopizzo’s slow but sure bars and Suzanna’s melodic chorus earned this track icon status.

Foto Moto – Noti Flow & Benzema

Despite the controversy that clouded this collaboration, it received an immense amount of love from fans. The chemistry between the two rappers and their lyrics attracted tons of fans. Alongside Femi one & Mejja’s Utawezana, Foto Moto was also another quarantine anthem.

Mazuri – Moji Shortbabaa Ft Guardian Angel

This gospel tune was massive not only because of the talent spilled all over it but also because of the uplifting message it carried.

Sota – Rekles & Mejja

By now it is clear that Mejja is Kenya’s king of collabos and his magic worked on this collaboration too. Rekles’ bars were top notch as usual too and message was very clear. On top of getting millions of streams, this jam also had a TikTok trend that to certify it as a massive tune.

Hainishtui – Boondocks Gang X Kansoul

Boondock gang members was destined to be a team, not only are the band members uniquely talented, but they also complement each other. After teaming up with the equally talented Kansoul, the trios delivered a hit without a doubt on Hainishtui.

Elshaddai – H_art The Band Ft Cedo

Off their album Made In The Streets, Elshaddai blew up and became one of the most loved tracks off that album. With Cedo’s magic touch to accompany H_art the band’s immense talent and inspiring message, this track was destined to be a classic.

Corona – Masauti, Chuchu, Ray Gee, PPMC & Amb. Amina Mohamed

This track is a bonus on this list. It was a message from the Kenyan Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage that urged Kenyans to follow the guidelines from the health care experts in the fight against COVID-19. The vocals were top notch.
