Nairobi is adopting the worldwide ideal of ‘No Shave November’ which essentially is having men grow their moustache all month long for a good cause. Addressing the growing concern about cancer, this is a proactive step in having men get tested, increase early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment which will, in turn, reduce preventable deaths statistics.
The fascination of growing a beard, conferring the prestige in history and crossover trends, this facial hair act is translating to a bold statement and 254 just scaled up that conversation.
The beard gang in Nairobi is calling for all men to take part is this noble event happening at the Arboretum on November 19th. Cancer campaigns in the past have been limited to types of cancer having a toll on ladies for example breast and cervical cancer. Now, being exceptional dude among regular dudes needs you to go for screening for pancreatic, lung, stomach and prostate types of cancer.
The Beard fest will be an event filled with entertainment but with a real impact on the people attending. Marrying the idea of music and health, brothers will get tested, educated and ultimately armed with a sea of information to beat cancer.
On the all-star lineup will be Dj Andre, Dj Joe Mfalme, Vin, U.V, Sadic, Kace and Dj Shugah not only performing but also acting as ambassadors of this noble cause. Mwalimu Rachel of Homeboyz will be the host for the day. The campaign is heavy on social media calling for turn out also daring men to come out in droves to be tested. The appeal is different as men are known to care little about health and general wellness.
The organizers have dubbed it as a change in men’s health which happens to be the worldwide pillar but most important prevention. Treatment in some of the few hospitals in the country is tad expensive, early detection agenda pushed by this event can be a life saver. Health practitioners dealing with cancer have an open call to come spread the gospel of keeping fit.
The cover charges at the gate will be 1000 shillings which cater for the whole procedure. Follow the beard gang on social media via the hashtags #Movember #BeardGang #NoshaveNovember and tell your friends to join the movement on Kicking Cancer in the Butt.
