Awilo Longomba Thrills The Crowd at Koroga Festival.

Koroga Festival was an absolute blast! Featuring the headline performance of the evening by Awilo Longomba, anyone that says they didn’t enjoy the event was probably not at the venue anyways because… How??

H_art The Band got on stage with their ever enthusiastic selves and made sure the crowd was up and running. These three young lads can definitely put up a show as they performed their hit songs, which the crowd seemed to very much love and enjoy.

They also performed Adabu, a collaborative effort between themselves and Dela, even bringing her on stage. The Afro pop queen showed the crowd why she’s such a great musician in and out of the booth and anyone who had any doubts about whether she’s the girl to look out for definitely had their fears/doubts calmed.

Up next was Daddy Owen who was completely amazing! It was my first time to see him on stage and as much as I may not understand what “Coupe De Cale” means, he made sure that I, and the rest of the crowd were on our feet shaking our waists the Lingala way without a care in the world.

Daddy Owen

It was in between the transition between Daddy Owen and Awilo Longomba that, much to our surprise, Sauti Sol took to the stage and for the first time at an in-house concert, they thanked all Kenyans who voted for them thus ensuring that they brought home the MAMA award. Finally!

Awilo then took to the stage and it was such a nostalgic feeling. Having started his career in music as a Drummer then quitting that in 1995 and finally releasing his first tape in 1998, I feel that Awilo Longombas performance for many, reminded them of their youth and for the younger ones, their parents favorite music back in the day. Personally it reminded me of the latter.

Awilo sang his heart out and ensured that his dancers kept us entertained as well. When the dancers were done, the crowd wanted to see if Awilo still had it and my did he whine his waist. He also called out Saudi Sol on stage to perform Bam Bam (remember Sauti Solar sampled this track?) and in that moment, the crowd was wilder than ever!
How is it possible that a man his age was able to maintain the energy throughout his performance and still have his waist shake like he was just born the other day? I guess that’s what still makes him a great performer, over a decade after he decided to pursue his passion.

Being a Capital FM affair, the event was hosted by two of the best hosts from the station; Amina Abdi and Kui.
