After being under the works for over a year, the Kenyan series Single-ish is finally set to premiere on Showmax. According to the producers, the premiere date is set for 20th January 2021.
Adapted from the hit South African series Unmarried, Single-ish follows the tumultuous life of three women, Sintamei, Mariah, and Rebeca, who are dealing with a flurry of issues related to marriage, relationships, and love in general. Kenyan actresses Minne Kariuki, Faith Kibathi, and Gathoni Mutua star as the three women.
Mutua plays an overachieving, career-focused Sintamei. This character is a brilliant lawyer who seems to have the life that any woman would dream of. She is on track to making partners in a prestigious law firm and has been happily married for 10 years to the man of her dreams. However, things don’t actually go that way.
According to Mutua, the series is nostalgic. “Other than the fact that it’s a show about women, Single-ish has this chic yet nostalgic old-school girlfriend’s vibe that takes the drama a notch higher without feeling like the friendship will fall apart,” she noted.
Kariuki, who plays Maria, a woman using her looks to get whatever she wants in life, believes the show is showing life as it is nowadays. “She (Mariah) is a modern-day slay queen who pretends to afford a lavish lifestyle and flaunts it all on social media because she wants to keep up with the trends,” said Kariuki.
“It’s an honor to get to play Rebecca as she explores motherhood and failures of her relationship,” Faith noted. “Single-ish is different because it’s very relatable and has a touch of the actual dating experiences in Nairobi. It also shows the beauty of reliable female friendship especially when things get bad,” added Faith. Rebecca is a down-to-earth girl who has dated her high school sweetheart for nine years and is still not married.
The series, produced by Insignia, stars other bigshots such as Brian Abajah, Michael Munyoki, Lucarelli Onyango, Mburu Kimani, Lenana Kariba, and Dora Nyaboke.
