The new season of Coke Studio Africa is set to be bigger and better if the trailer is to be believed. When Coke Studio premieres next month, it promises to give its viewers “front row seats into the artists’ lives.” How do they intend on doing this? By showing unscripted scenes of the artists writing, brainstorming, or in the studio.
Coke Studio Africa is produced by Coca-Cola and is the first show of its kind to be produced in Africa. The show brings together artists from across Africa and from different eras to create “an authentic African sound through musical fusion.”
The new season will also feature emerging artists from countries across Africa who will have the rare opportunity of engaging, interacting, and working with Africa’s biggest music stars in a new segment dubbed “The Big Break”. Some of those African stars, as seen in the trailer, include Vanessa Mdee, Fally Ipupa, and Jaguar, just to mention a few. This season will feature 11 countries, and the show will be recorded in 5 languages.
It will come as no shock when this season manages to surpass all the star power and musical greatness of Season 4 which included a collaboration between international RnB star Ne-Yo and various African stars. The song titled ‘Reason’ featured our very own Wangechi, Alikiba (Tanzania), Maurice Kirya (Uganda), Dama Do Bling (Mozambique) and Ice Prince (Nigeria). You can watch that video below.
In the meantime, here are three things to expect from the new season of Coke Studio Africa:
- Original Collaboration Tracks.
The music will be created, performed and produced by Africa’s finest.
- On the Spot Jam Sessions.
In this interactive segment, the audience will get the opportunity to co-create, so to speak, music with the artists.
- Digital Engagement.
With Coke Studio upping its digital outreach, viewers will get to:
- View Behind the Scenes (BTS) footage.
- Engage with their favourite artists on Facebook Live
- And read more about the season on the Coke Studio blog.
