Renowned media personality Adele Onyango, podcaster and social activist, has announced her appointment to the board of directors at Baraza Media Lab via her social media handles. Part of her post on X read:
“BML has been so instrumental in my journey with #LegallyClueless Africa! I am impressed by the incredible progress BML has achieved, excited to join in actualizing their (our!) new exciting goals!“
The Baraza Media Lab is a space dedicated for networking, collaboration, and experimentation among Kenya’s media practitioners. Ms. Onyango accompanied the post with a black and white graphic with the text “Excited to join the Baraza Media Lab board of directors.”
Onyango’s fans and fellow celebrities congratulated her on the new role, expressing their admiration and support for her work. The roaming chef Dennis Ombachi replied under her post :”Congratulations Adelle, you’re an inspiration.”Activist Boniface Mwangi was also elated, sending the short phrase: “Congratulations Adele . Hapo Sawa.”

Baraza Media Lab offers a support system that includes a physical space and online platform for Kenyan media practitioners to support innovation, collaboration, and new business models that advance public interest journalism. The lab conducts research and pilot experimental projects that increase citizen engagement on issues of public interest. It also provides co-working spaces, events, creative workshops, community, and insights for the media ecosystem.

Ms. Onyango’s journey as a media personality began when she was headhunted by Then One FM, a Kenyan radio station, while still at university. She later joined Kiss FM Nairobi, where she hosted the Saturday breakfast show for seven years. She also started a Saturday evening programme that played African music and became a social media influencer with her followers calling themselves #TeamAdelle.
She left Kiss FM in 2019 to pursue other projects- modt notably he Legally Clueless Podcast. She is creator and host of the podcast that features authentic African stories and conversations and has been syndicated by Trace 95.3 FM. The podcast is the most popular and successful in the East African region. She is also the founder of the Adelle Onyango Initiative, which aims to empower African women and youth through various programs, such as the Sisterhood, a mentorship program that offers support for women in Africa, and No Means No, a campaign that helps survivors of rape access therapies and safe houses⁶.
